Regardless of the size, bottom-line or nature of your business at Ecochic Design we feel that giving back to your community is an integral part of a successful business. Each Friday end of the day Ecochic Design drives to Langley, BC and volunteers at the PRDA, which is the Pacific Riding for Developing Abilities. We help children ride and build confidence through horsemanship. It’s an amazing way to contribute, participate and be active in your community. Now, people might ask why the PRDA? There is a story why and one that has deep meaning.

My motivation and inspiration comes from my sister, not my sister who is alive, but my sister who passed away. Her words were silent and her expressions limited and yet she still had a big impact on my life and the decisions I make today for Ecochic. My sister was severely disabled, she could not walk and she could not talk. Her muted silence and unspoken words fascinated me and confused me all at the same time. To be honest, I did not understand its purpose. It is only today, in adulthood, that her life had a huge purpose and did have an impact. This is why I have chosen to work with kids with disabilities and those who are less fortunate. It’s why I do what I do, so I can give more.

Her life was life and it had meaning, it was there to teach us compassion, to teach us patience and to teach us understanding for others without judgment and to GIVE BACK. This is where I draw my strength, creativity and inspiration from her (Jeanette) and my mother who selflessly gave herself to care for her unconditionally, to nurture her soul and to be present.

I have also been fortunate enough to travel to India three times to help a woman near and dear to my heart Darlene Togwell. Darlene Togwell, has spent the last 5 years, 6 months a year in India sponsoring numerous families, helping them build new lives. Her charity work is done completely hands on and on her own.

Darlene collects donations from family, friends and anyone is willing to help out. Darlene has built 20 houses so far and is continuing her legacy. I will continue to help her and go to India as much as I can to help. 100% of all her sponsors’ donated money goes to the kids, families and housing projects. I’ve seen it and I have witnessed it.

As we continue our path to success, contributing and helping others will always be a part of the “Business Plan”.
